<br>Q:  Does everyone Upstate talk without an accent, like me?
<br>A:  There are two main dialects upstate.  The Hudson Valley dialect is
<br>centered in the Hudson Valley, north of the New York Metropolitan
<br>dialect; it extends beyond state borders into New Jersey and
<br>Pennsylvania.  The Upstate New York dialect takes in the rest of
<br>Upstate, plus slices of Pennsylvania and Vermont.  Within each of
<br>these, there are smaller dialect areas.
