Hi, Barry--

Your cite for this from the _New York Transcript_ of 25 December,
1835, is very interesting. _Hooker_ is a word we get a lot of mail
on. Did Thompson give you more context for this cite? Who are the
characters in the dialogue? Is it really clear that _hooker_ means
"prostitute"? If Thompson is the one I should ask about this, do you
know if he has an e-mail address?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm sending this to the list because for some reason my computer is
rejecting your e-mail address.

Regards,
Jim Rader
