Subject: new term?

Just saw in "American Psychologist" an article entitled "Adaptations,
Exaptations, and Spandrels."

Exaptation is defined as: a feature not arising as an adaptation for its
current function but rather co-opted for the emerging paradigm of
evolutionary psychology. That definition is quoted from S. J. Gould (1991).

Spandrels are herein defined as "presently useful characteristics that owe
their origin to side consequences of other features of the architecture."
