<br>Just saw in "American Psychologist" an article entitled "Adaptations,
<br>Exaptations, and Spandrels."
<br>
<br>Exaptation is defined as: a feature not arising as an adaptation for its
<br>current function but rather co-opted for the emerging paradigm of
<br>evolutionary psychology.  That definition is quoted from S. J. Gould (1991).
<br>
<br>Spandrels are herein defined as "presently useful characteristics that owe
<br>their origin to side consequences of other features of the architecture."
