Subject: "email"

A friend recently emailed me more or less as follows (text unavailable for cut-and-paste):

Last night, quite late, I was reading the French version of _Scientific American_ [she was sending from Paris], and I
couldn't figure out why they were saying that ancient sharks sent different kinds of email with their teeth. This morning it
hit me: e'mail [acute accent on the e] is French for 'enamel'!
