I still haven't seen this, but published reports say that the movie is
set in the "very early 1980s." This is still too early for "yuppie" (my
earliest for the word is 1982, though a reliable source alleges an earlier
use)--as Barry notes, the word became a phenomenon in 1984. Reports of
the movie say that the characters discuss yuppies at some length, and
comment on "Die Yuppie Scum" graffiti, etc.--all impossible for the "very
early 1980s," however this is interpreted.
