Hmm. Maybe "ambrosia" is a creolism?

Natalie and Peter's comments reminded me that ambrosia in

Jamaica commonly refers to just fresh orange and grated coconut.

Though I searched my Caribbean cookbooks and drew a blank on the name,

one of them turned up "Angel Food" for the same dish (Norma Benghiat's

admirable 'Traditional Jamaican Cookery', which is otherwise very

true-to-life). Never heard that term.

Incidentally, surely coconut id a fruit?! (though technically

it is also a seed-- one of the largest, I guess!)
