The pronunciation of sink as zinc is very common here in NE Wisconsin,

particularly among people of Belgian (Walloon) ancestry who live in the

southern part of the Door Peninsula. So far as I can tell, it refers to the

basin only, as in "I'm going to wash my hairs in the zinc, hey?" (Yes, it's

hairs, not hair--probably from les cheveux.)
