Subject: sketching linguistic rules



Could someone suggest a good intro linguistics textbook (that is usually

widely available or easily found) that does a good job of explaining

how to state phonological rules (or linguistic rules in general)? I

need to sketch some linguistic rules for samples of speech I have

collected. I also would just like to have a good intro linguistics

book on my shelf for reference. Thanks in advance.
