In the mid-70's, I worked as a dorm cook with a woman in her

60's who had, she said, been out of North Dakota for only one

week-end in her life--for a visit to Mpls. She always referred

to the "Dirty Thirties"--i.e. the dust storms. She told lots

of stories from the dirty thirties and, as I recall, her use

of the term was constant and consistent.
