Since everyone is talking about how they mention (Southern) California

freeways, I'll throw in my two bits.

When using numbers (eg 110, 405, 605, 710, ad naseum), I always use the

definite determiner. I can interchangebaly use the 'proper' names, (eg,

the Harbor, the San Diego, the San Fernando.....), but, like the

numbers, I use the definite determiner.

Personally, I prefer using the numbers instead of the names because

some frewways change names every so often. So, the 91 is "The Beach

Cities freeway" in some places, the Artesia (ironically, near the beach

cities) freeway from where I live, and the Riverside freeway closer to

Riverside.

Sorry I can't suggest any real data, except maybe a tape recorder

during rush hour trafic on any radio station.
