Subject: Preston's Arguments for meeting with LSA

His argument is persuasive and takes dead aim at the issue: shall we

continue to meet with MLA for convenience and reasons that have nought to

do with study of language variation, or shall we continue having a

section with MLA and throw in with LSA our resources, efforts, and

recruitments of young, active linguists who will form the backbone of

language variation study in the dawning of the next century. I think the

answer is clear: we must form a stronger relationship with LSA for

intellectual and scholarly reasons. We must let go of the musty MLA,

and our series of excuses to go to a meeting where we are tolerated

at best, ignored at worst.

Cheers,
