Subject: LSA, NWAV, and all that



Dennis, I was referring to Kirk Hazen on the Sociolinguistics program at

LSA, not to Walt or Natalie, who of course are esteemed members of ADS.



While I understand much of what Dennis has to say, I just do not agree

with it. I stand with, e.g., the lexicographers in my appreciation of

some of what happens at MLA. I think of *Language* in much the same way

that Dennis thinks of *PMLA*.



Why can't we accept that fact that there is a deep division in ADS

membership and meet with neither LSA or MLA?
