Not by a dam sight! The form "dammit" was long permissible in newsprint at

a time when the sensibilities of readers and editors prohibited the use of

damn and its relatives. It was a way to smuggle some forcefulness into

character representations and expressions when "gosh" was about as forceful

an expletive as was normally allowed. Ah, for the good old days!
