Subject: Re: Language and Intelligence
I'm just curious to know if anybody out there still holds the belief that
a persons intelligence can be measured by the way they speak?
Some aspects of a person's intelligence are certainly linguistic.
What is meant by "the way they speak"? Are you referring to speech
abnormalities, idiolect, breadth of vocabulary, delivery dynamincs,
frequency of oral communication, inflections, . . . , or . . . ?
Clearly, there is no dialect/intelligence connection. But the fact
that we all think in language suggests some correlation between our
language and our intelligence.
