1) What is "the first screen"?

Whatever part of the message fits onto the first screen. I have my mail

program set to 20-line screens. If I'm bored with the message at that

point, I hit the delete key -- which is why I didn't even notice the file

at the end of yesterday's spam.

and 2) While my ignorance of how

to do it would prevent my decoding and downloading the binary file and I

wouldn't have had the interest in this one to prompt me to find out,

nevertheless I don't know why it would have been unwise.

Unlike text files (e.g., e-mail), binary files (executable programs) can

contain viruses. I'm not especially paranoid on that subject and have

certainly downloaded lots of binary files from lots of ftp sites and

other places through the years without any problems, but I would not

download an unsolicited binary file sent to me by a stranger.
