Subject: Re: More British automotive terms
Apologies if (a) someone has already mentioned these or (b) everyone's
tired of the subject; but this morning I thought of two delightful terms
to share:
Zebra crossing: a striped pedestrian crosswalk
Sleeping policeman: a speed bump
On another British subject, it turns out that just as they call all
vacuum cleaners "Hoovers", even using the term as a verb, they call what
we call "walkers" (frameworks used to support handicapped or frail
people) "Zimmers". Zimmer is one of the major manufacturers of walkers, I
find out.
I've forgotten what they call Kleenex.
