I don't have my _Petit Larousse_ here at home either, but I would guess that

'leisure',

'seizure', and 'forfeit' all come from Old Frence 'ei'. 'weird', however, is

Old English

('wyrd', if I remember correctly), but there may be something about "after

'w'", as there

is for "before 'gh'".
