This indeed seems to be a quatative similar to "she's like." It's been

parodied on Saturday Night Live in an ongoing skit about high school

girls working in a Gap store. In the parady, they tend to use it in

narratives.



In my current research on undergraduate life/language, I've not

encountered the quotative among either sex, suggesting that it is

limited to the 18-under group, that it is age-graded, or that it is

regional (I'm doing research in No. Virginia).
