failing DARE vol. required, "sluff" (likely a sp. pron. of "slough" as in
the serpent its skin) reminds me of ca 1950 Montana: "slope" "slope off" with
the same meaning, but used by railroad workers rather than truant beavises,
according to older friends from that region. Does "slope" show up on
anyone's scanner?
