Isn't there a neutralization in some places between /aw/ and /ow/,

merging somewhere in the vicinity of /ew/? To these American ears, though

just impressionistically and not by careful listening, the Queen uses /ew/

where I would use /ow/, e.g. in know . If Slough and now really rhyme,

then slow as quoted in the road sign must be a local homonym. No?
