The trouble was they kept the wrong spelling: if they had just written it

as Picket Wire, nobody would have been the wiser. This reminds of the

famous double etymology of Smackover, Ark. The folk etymology is that it

was so named because "it was smack over the river" from somewhere. The

alleged real etymology is "chemin couvert", according to Ernest Haden.
