Subject: Re: Five & Dime / Dime store
P.S. The name was shortened to Woolworths in the 70's
there was an article in _smithsonian_ magazine some time in 1994-5
about five-and-dimes that would help out in tracing origins.
woolworth's, i think, was not the first one to refer to nickels and
dimes in its name, so perhaps the regionality of "five and dime" vs.
"five and 10" and whatever else might be determined by where which
stores/chains were more prevalent and what they called themselves.
