Subject: Gay "accent"?

I'm doing some work on the homosexual

community's "reclaiming" of certain

terms like "fag" and "queer," and as

a side issue, have come across the

question of a gay accent. Some of my

interview sources believe that the

accent in question is related to a

San Francisco accent.

Does this ring any bells? Do any of

you know of studies of a gay accent,

first of all, and secondly, of its

origins?

Any information would be most helpful.

Thanks!
