<br>Sounds like there's a connection with the term "noodling", as in hugging a
<br>squirming child, which my cousins in Oklahoma use to describe fishing by
<br>hand. The fisherman wades along a river bank and reaches into holes in the
<br>rock or clay. Supposedly, a trout nesting in one of those holes will bite
<br>at the hand or fingers. The fisherman thens closes his hand around whatever
<br>he can grasp and pull the fish to shore.
