<br>Colleagues are invited to submit abstracts for the annual Midwest Regional
<br>Meeting of the American Dialect Society, to be held this year in St.
<br>Louis, Missouri, November 5 - 7. The session theme is open, and abstracts
<br>from faculty and students are welcome. (Topics with a regional flavor
<br>include, among many others, perspectives on German-American speech
<br>communities, AAVE, and the life of language along the Mississippi.)
<br>
<br>The Society's meeting is held in association with the annual meeting of
<br>Midwest Modern Language Association (MMLA), which offers a full slate of
<br>sessions on topics in literature and, on a more limited basis, topics in
<br>linguistics. The conference will be held at the Regal Riverfront Hotel, a
<br>setting that offers participants, at day's end, the opportunity to enjoy
<br>the laziness of an autumn Mississippi--riverboats, restaurants, park
<br>benches, and fall colors.
