Dutchess County: Plateau (old telephone exchange)

        homophone of Plato.



Delaware County: Delhi

        pron. Dell-high



Greene County: Athens

        local pron. /eythenz/, gradually displaced by digraph

            in first syll.



New York County: New York

        monosyllable in ordinary utterance, r-less.
