There are two books by Leslie Dunkling that are good on the subject of first-name frequency in England and America too: FIRST NAMES FIRST and THE GUINNESS BOOK OF NAMES. The latter has an extensive bibliography; the former has lots of lists of the fifty

most popular names, every 25 years or so, for boys and girls, in England and America, etc. Dunkling has written many books on this subject.
