Just to further muddy the waters - 8-) - my mother

(age 62, born Providence, RI, mostly native to eastern

Massachusetts) uses "budge" occasionally as a positive,

*transitive* verb - "Go see if you can budge your father."

But I suspect this is family dialect - we make up a lot

of stuff.
