Subject: text for language and gender



I need suggestions on a book for the language and gender portion

of a general intro to sociolinguistics. For the students I have

(beginning grad level with an unbelievable variety of backrounds,

from business majors and law students to disgruntled sentence

parsers), I would like something resonably short, approachable,

with lots of examples, and no particular axe to grind.

Suggestions are most welcome.
