Ah, yes, the question form "Vas you dere, Charley?" rings an even

louder bell in my memory, I suppose because the lack of S-V agr struck

my prescriptivist-teenager ears. Dave Bergdahl adds that it was

supposedly Yinglish (Yiddish English), but would Baron von Munchausen

have spoken Yinglish? The radio program could make him whatever it

wanted to, of course.
