"Legacy" hardware or software is any equipment or program that is hanging around, considered obsolete by the person using the term, but has to be maintained for some reason. For example, I have an ancient workstation that is more trouble than it's worth, but it would take a solid week's work, and probably a paid consultant, to rebuild the network here without it.
