I'd spell it <whuppin'>, too, and would have thoght <whoopin'> was a

simple misspelling before reading this thread.



Is whuppin' or whoopin' related to "whop," "whomp," and "whompin'," as in

"I'm gonna whop [or whomp] you upside-a the head"?
