I'm not sure about the sexual analogy, but besides basketball and diving,
another relatively hoary sports usage is in baseball, when a batter "really
nailed a hanging slider", etc. That one might be analyzed as hitting the nail
on the head, but that doesn't really generalize to the basketball or other
contexts any better than nailing the feet to the floor. But perhaps meta-
phorically it can be understood in the appropriate way.   --Larry
