Fair question. A "spaldeen" is (or was, you can't get them anymore)

a pink, hollow rubber ball (between 2 and 3 inches in diameter--not

having one handy, I can't be more precise) made by the Spalding

company, and used for a wide variety of games, including catch,

handball, stickball, the stoopball variants people have been discussing,

and the basic one-person activity of bouncing a ball on the ground.
