mother and I asked her how she would pronounce w-a-f-t. She gave the wahft
pronounciation, so mine likely comes from reading and using analogy to words
like raft.
I happened to use the word "immersion, and she says "immersion" with a /zh/
while I use /sh/, so there may be a generation gap. (I have often wondered
whether Seattle is still going through a sorting out of pronunciations as it
has a large non-native pronounciation.)
