I always thought this was a term that originated in the early 1970s among gay

men who went to Atlanta from the surrounding states to party. At least, I

remember it from that era. But I don't know if I have any published

citations. I would check out the Atlanta Gay Press from that period if I

really wanted to do a thorough job of lexicography on this one.
