Subject: John Cabot

Of course John Cabot was not the first English speaker to set foot in

North America. Leif Ericson, who inherited a kind of Norwegianized

English from his marauding forebears, left remnants of it behind. Had

Cabot ventured farther inland, say to what is now called Minnesota, he

would have encountered folks who said things like "Yah, sher, u betchah".
