I believe rock and roll was a black vernacular slang for sex. I remember

the phrase "hard rock" being applied to groups like Led Zeppelin, Black Sab-

bath and Alice Cooper when I was in grade school in the early 70's. You did-

n't list it, but I know the term "heavy metal" was coined in Steppenwolf's

"Born To Be Wild."(the line ..."heavy metal thunder")
