Subject: Drop a Dime



I agree with Jesse on the current meaning of drop a dime, but I wonder

if the origin of the phrase is only connected with the making of a

phone call. Isn't it true that the underworld has, for decades,

employed the practice of dropping a dime onto the chest of a stool

pigeon who has recently "expired?"
