Subject: same old six and seven



Does anyone out there have any clue as to where the phrase "Same old six

and seven" comes from. My grandmother uses it all the time to mean

"nothing new has happened". She said that her mother used the term, so

it is at least as old as the turn of the century. The only other

information that I can give is that she is from central Missouri.

    As a point of contrast, my wife's grandmother uses "Same old same

old" in much the same way. She is from rural central Illinois.
