Subject: /kup/'s in Detroit (fwd)
As for the pronunciation of Detroit in English, my wife (who has only
lived in the US for 8 months) doesn't cringe at the pronunciation of it,
but rather thinks it's funny. On the other hand, I've taught a lot of
French students and business people, and a lot of English words borrowed
from French have made them cringe. American Pop Rock has an incredible
influence on French youth today, leading to a more general acceptance of
many English words into their language at the level of popular usage.
