Subject: Re: chuck hole/pot hole

The OED has it as "chock-hole", chock being a block or lump, and chock-hole

presumably being a hole that is an obstacle to traffic.

I grew up in Southeast Texas in the 50's and, to me and the people I knew

at the time, such a hole was a "chughole." There were no potholes on my

street.
