Subject: Re: Thursday next, etc.

I would be interested to know whether such retrospective

constructions as "Thursday last" or "Thursday week" (meaning "a week ago

Thursday") coexist in the speech of those Southern American speakers who

have "Thursday week" in its prospective sense.

It would never enter my mind to interpret "Thursday week" as anything

other than a week from next Thursday. That's the only meaning I've ever

intended when using it.
