Ban "as"?? You mean like in:

"(censored) Good (censored) It Gets"
"He stood (censored) if transfixed."

In my feeling, if "as" is banned, you have to substitute something
else, e.g.:

"Like I said before..."
"Like you know, we don't tolerate nonstandard usage in this class!"

I only ban it as a subordinator. Instead, they have to decide to use one of
the following: because, since, while, although, though, etc.
