One would also 'greaze' the car, but with 'grease'--a distinction no So/SoMid
speaker disputes, am I right?

I didn't know of this (my ignorance!), but it pleases me, as I see it as fitting
the pattern of voicing a final fricative in a
denominal verb. Cf.
a house to house
breath to breathe
glass glaze
grass graze
etc.
