Dennis, your proposal is to be applauded for all the openings it gives any

one of us to contribute to such a panel at MLA. Your proposal makes me

pause to rethink aspects of a paper I am presenting at AAAL on politeness

in adult chat rooms on the WWW. I will submit a paper to Allan related to

some of the themes you suggest in your proposal with the hope that we can

have such a panel as you describe at the MLA meeting. I, for one,

appreciate your taking such an initiative.
