Date: Thu, 14 Mar 1996 11:49:56 -0500 From: Allan Metcalf Subject: ADS Constitution & Bylaws Oops! Ron Butters has pointed out a neglected matter. It has been a long time since we published the ADS constitution and bylaws. If you religiously (or even sacrilegiously) save back issues of NADS, you'll find these documents in 23.1 (January 1991) 10-12. But to make them more available, I'm sending the complete text to Natalie and asking her to put it on our Web site. The C & B are too long to stuff in everyone's e-mailbox, but if you would like an e-mail copy, send me a message and I'll oblige. Meanwhile, here is the Constitutional statement Ron asked about: II. PURPOSE The American Dialect Society is organized in the interest of the academic community and not for profit. Its object is the study of the English language in North America, together with other languages or dialects of other languages influencing it or influenced by it. - Allan Metcalf, ADS Executive Secretary
