I have used the Gee textbook for an intro course. It is very heavy on

semantics at the beginning--using a simplified predicate language.

Phonology and syntax are okay as is the psycholinguistics chapter. The

discourse chapter is weak. My experience was that it didn't well for

beginning students--but I teach at a regional institution.
