It could be related to German. Then again, the Case knife I have always had is

a sturdy, all purpose pocket knife for camping, etc. Perhaps she uses the word

as a generic term for all such knives. I have heard Buck used that way. Buck

and Case are both reputable knife manufacturers. Just a thought.
