Subject: singular 'we'

This seems to be similar to a British use, such us ' Give us a hand', or

'Can you lend us 5 pounds', which are very common, in pretty much most

dialects, certainly in England (I'm English myself) and practically

always refer to an individual. I'm wondering whether

there is some kind of link between these phenomena.
